Job Title: Biostatistician

Duty Station: Kampala-based position

Duties Brief

Job description

  1. Will work with a multi-disciplinary team comprising clinical and basic scientists with the support of senior epidemiologists based at IDRC and partner institutions including UCSF and Stanford University to analyze/ interpret data, generate reports, and contribute to the writing of manuscripts.
  2. Will contribute to the design of intervention and observational studies leading the drafting of analysis plans.
  3. Lead the development and deployment of statistical tools applicable to a broad range of clinical and laboratory-based data.
  4. Advise and assist the research teams on study design and data analysis.
  5. Supervise and mentor junior statisticians.
  6. Perform independent statistical analyses on data generated by the project and assist in communicating the findings in peer-reviewed publications or reports.
  7. Support the drafting of regular reports.
  8. Advise and assist the research teams on study design and sample size in preparation of grant applications.
  9. Manage the introduction and updating of Standard Operating Procedures for a data processing and statistical matters as necessary.
  10. Contribute to the development of study protocols, the design of the case report forms and databases.
  11. Contribute to the development of study protocols, the design of the case report forms and databases.
  12. Contribute to the development of grant proposals.
  13. Advise and support non-statistical researchers about basis statistics and statistical analyses.

Qualification Required

Essential skills.

  1. Master’s degree in epidemiology, statistics, math or related quantitative field.
  2. Programming/ data analysis skills in at least one relevant language, e.g., R, Stata, Python.
  3. Experience in statistical modeling/ data analyses.
  4. Experience in database design and data management.
  5. Excellent communication skills, e.g., data visualization, writing

Preferred.

  1. Prior background in epidemiology, and/ or infectious diseases.
  2. Expertise with longitudinal data analysis and/or multilevel modeling.
  3. Updated certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection (HSP).
