About Us:

CROSO (Child Restoration Outreach Support Organization) is an American nonprofit organization providing comprehensive post-secondary scholarships to former street children in Uganda since 2007. The CROSO Scholarship includes tuition, housing, food, materials, internship fees, a laptop for each scholar and more. CROSO scholars can study at any post-secondary institution in Uganda (university, college or technical school) and can pursue a course that is specific to their skills, talents and aspirations. We believe providing our scholars with access to higher education (and the experiences that accompany it) empowers them to provide for themselves and their families for the rest of their lives. Armed with the academic skills, career skills (learned through their internships) and a new professional network, CROSO graduates are becoming leaders in their communities.

Job Summary:

The CROSO Program Coordinator will be responsible for serving as coordinator of support efforts for scholars, assisting in program administration, and liaising with U.S.-based operations. The Program Coordinator will be the initial, and currently only, staff member in Uganda and will directly report to CROSO’s Executive Director (who is based in the U.S.). The Program Coordinator will be based in Mbale at CROSO’s partner organization, Child Restoration Outreach.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Management and Coordination of Scholar Support:

  • Scholar recruiting partner relationships
  • Build individual relationships with each scholar through visits and mentorship programs
  • Provide professional development support to current scholars

Program Administration:

  • Record keeping
  • Academic Institution Relationship Management
  • Finance and Fundraising
  • Partner Development and Relationship Management

Liaise with U.S.-based operations:

  • Organize Annual CROSO Scholar Workshop
  • Attend and support relevant monthly & quarterly committee meetings, regularly giving short presentations.
  • Report regularly to executive director and support donor communication

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant for the CROSO Program Coordinator position will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Development Studies, Social Work, Education, Business Management, etc.)
  • Must be a Ugandan citizen.
  • Must have at least two years of working experience in Uganda.
  • Must be able to travel within Uganda for several days at a time to visit scholars and partners.
  • Must be able to work after hours to liaise with U.S.-based team.
  • Must be able to work some additional nights and weekends.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort in 1-on-1 settings, or presenting to large groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills in order to build and maintain relationships.
  • Strong planning, reporting, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Doc, Google Sheets, Google Drive)
  • Proficiency using Zoom.
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary education landscape in Uganda would be preferred
  • Experience or familiarity with issues surrounding street children would be preferred
  • Fluency in English (both written and verbal) and ability to communicate cross culturally
