Job Description

The bank recently acquired a tier 1 licence, and it is growing and expanding its operations, leading to new openings, and opportunities for people who wish to grow their careers in Banking. The bank therefore wishes to recruit a competent, hardworking, dependable, and flexible resource, with a clean track record for the role that has fallen vacant.

JOB TITLE: REGULATORY COMPLIANCE OFFICER
REPORTS TO: MANAGER REGULATORY & STATUTORY COMPLIANCE

JOB PURPOSE
Ensure that the bank adheres to the highest standards of ethical and professional behaviour in conduct of its business and comply fully with all applicable laws, regulations and rules that govern the bank’s
business in order to safeguard the bank against financial losses and loss of reputation; and also meet expectations and demands of shareholders, customers as well as to withstand regulatory scrutiny

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES /KEY DELIVERABLES
• Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of the requirements of applicable laws and Regulations and as well the Bank’s internal standards of conduct and procedures as stated in the Bank’s Code of Conduct.
• Based on knowledge of the Bank’s business, identifying potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk and assessing the severity of potential Compliance Risks.
• Effectively implementing day-to-day monitoring and representative testing (including spot checks) of the Bank’s actual compliance with the Applicable Regulations.
• Carry out compliance field checks on a regular basis to evaluate the effectiveness of Bank compliance with the applicable Regulations and make proposals for improvement and correction whenever required.
• Identification, recommendation and supporting improvements to the Bank’s overall compliance program.
• Assist in planning for compliance checks and properly document the tests carried out and conclusions drawn.
• Preparation of compliance monitoring and relevant regulatory reports.
• Providing direct support to designated business functions to address the reported and/emerging compliance lapses.
• Regular updates to the unit’s risk profile/register, track or monitor and report on the status of the unit’s Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to line management.
• Ensure timely reporting of incidents and support the completion of the unit’s annual Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and review of the Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
• Provide training to staff and management on compliance issues, legislative and critical AML/CFT legal regulatory requirements.
• Serving as a contact point within the Bank for compliance queries from staff members.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related field.
• Possession of Diploma in Law or professional qualification in Compliance, Accounting, Auditing or related fields is an added advantage.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• At least 2 years working experience in Regulatory Compliance or related field with a reputable organization.
• Knowledge of the financial sector.
• Working knowledge of the Government structure
• Report writing skills
• Excellent analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Good relationship management skills
