Job Description

JOB TITLE : Finance Manager

REPORTING TO : Chief Finance Officer

DIRECT REPORTS : Three

NO. OF YEARS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED : At least five (5) years’ post qualification experience at management level.

QUALIFICATIONS : Qualified accountant with Chartered Association of Certified Accounts (ACCA) or ICPAU

OVERALL PURPOSE

To be responsible for the efficient running of the Finance operations, financial reporting, financial planning, and related functions. Ensuring company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles and that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.

1. SYSTEMS’ DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION

Designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluation of financial and related systems of the company so as to ensure the undisturbed financial and related operations through:

  • Evaluating and monitoring financial reporting systems, accounting and collection procedures, and investment activities.
  • Developing and utilizing forward-looking predictive models and activity based financial analyses to provide insight into the organisation’s operations and business plans.
  • Developing and implementing the overall Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) policy and strategy.

2. BUDGETING

To ensure that the budgeting process for the organization is carried out within the given parameters and delivered in time by:

  • Coordinating the development and monitoring of budgets for the organization.
  • Developing financial business plans and forecasts.
  • Preparation and submission of monthly budget performance reports, including explanation of significant variances, recommending action, and projections to financial year end.

3. FINANCIAL REPORTING

To ensure all financial reports are produced accurately and delivered within the agreed timelines i.e. Company Management Accounts, Company Statutory Accounts, SGIU Annual Reports

by:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to meet the company’s reporting requirements and statutory reporting deadlines.
  • Preparation and submission of the same to Executive Management.
  • Preparation of financial analyses.
  • Ensuring that annual external audits are carried out timeously and delivered as required by the Management.

4. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

To ensure efficient and effective financial management through:

  • Ensuring proper cashflow and working capital management.
  • Proper expense management.
  • Monitoring company investment management.
  • Ensuring accuracy of accounting records and reconciliations.

5. CREDIT CONTROL AND LIQUIDITY MANAGEMENT

Ensuring proper credit control and liquidity management by:

  • Ensuring that an efficient and effective debt collection system is in place.
  • Monitoring and coordinating debt financing and debt service payments with external agencies.

6. RISK MANAGEMENT, INTERNAL CONTROLS, AND COMPLIANCE

To ensure proper risk management, internal controls, and compliance through:

  • Monitoring budget performance of the company, performing expense trend analysis, and monitoring financial and operational risk exposures on an ongoing basis, proactively identifying potential risk areas and recommending corrective action to the Chief Finance Officer.
  • Providing internal controls and enforcing compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Implementing and ensuring overall compliance with established internal financial controls of financial transactions to mitigate strategic, financial, operational, and reputational risks to business operations.
  • Ensuring all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements are met on time.

7. MAINTAINING KEY STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS FOR THE BUSINESS

To ensure maintenance of sound business relationships with key stakeholders by among other things satisfying their information needs. Some of these key stakeholders are:

  • Banks.
  • Tax authorities.
  • Internal and External auditors.
  • The Central Bank and other regulatory authorities.
  • Customers and suppliers.

8. DISASTER RECOVERY PLAN AND BUSINESS CONTINUITY PROGRAMME

Be an active member and decisive player in the DRP/BCP activities in the company.

9. INFORMATION, COMMUNICATION, AND TECHNOLOGY (ICT)

Ensuring that there are smooth ICT operations in the company.

10. CARRYING OUT ANY OTHER ASSIGNMENTS

To carry out any other assignments as advised from time to time.
