The USAID Orphans and Vulnerable Children West Central Activity aims to improve learning outcomes, advance HIV epidemic control in Uganda, and ensure that children and youth have the opportunity to lead resilient, healthy and productive lives. The USAID OVC West Central 5-year Activity will deliver critical HIV/GBV/violence prevention and response services to children and
youth and their families in communities, clinics, and schools. Within USAID’s Journey to SelfReliance Framework, USAID OVC West Central Activity will be strengthening government capacity to deliver core services to children within an integrated referral network and case management system.
Agency for Co-operation in Research and Development (ACORD) Uganda is a Prime Partner for the implementation of the USAID OVC West Central Activity delivering integrated programming to vulnerable families, 90% of whom we expect to be children or adolescent living with HIV across the 5 (five) districts supported by ACORD-U. In the target districts we will also be delivering community Prevention programming primary to adolescent at risk. In year 1, the districts of operation for ACORD include Mityana, Gomba, Kyenjojo, Kakumiro and Luwero.
In light of the above, ACORD Uganda in collaboration with the District local government departments of the respective district intends to recruit suitably qualified persons for a period of 1 year for the following positions;
1. Position: Driver
Reporting to: Human Resource & Administrative Officer-OVC WEST CENTRAL ACTIVITY
Positions: 1 person.
The Driver will maintain ACORD U vehicle by ensuring it is clean and receive regular scheduled maintenance. S/he will be responsible for receiving international visitors, driving staff or guests to project sites, and running office errands. This position, in conjunction with administrative staff, will be responsible for ensuring that all required permits and insurance are kept current by alerting the appropriate staff members in time for renewals.
a) Provide the necessary transport and delivery services to the Project.
b) Strictly observe Traffic Rules and Regulations and maximum speed limits as prescribed by the Traffic Laws of Uganda.
c) Be conversant with the motor vehicle usage policy and ensure adherence to its content at all times.
d) Ensure that motor vehicle has valid insurance well displayed at all times.
e) Ensure that Organization vehicle is serviced at the right mileage reading as provided in the manual.
f) Maintain vehicle cleanliness at all times.
g) Maintain and update all motor vehicle records (repairs and services, fuel consumption and movement/ mileage records) and submits to the supervisor for verification by close of business every second day of every month, for the previous month.
h) Ensure that Vehicle log book and log sheets are available in each vehicle.
i) Undertake delivery services and other messenger duties as directed.
j) Maintains accurate, up-to-date records for all trips in the vehicle log sheet. The log sheet is updated for every destination/stop per trip.
k) In liaison with the supervisor and manager responsible for the trip, coordinates movement schedule in the most effective way to avoid interruptions.
l) Responsible for the safety and security of the vehicles assigned at all times and that of the vehicle accessories and or goods therein.
m) Always ensures safe custody of the fuel card under driver’s care.
n) Monitors and verifies that all required repair works are done to satisfaction before the
related payment is made.
o) May perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
a) Secondary education with an A level certificate plus seven (7) years’ relevant experience in a non-profit/developmental organization setting.
b) Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license.
c) MUST be a Ugandan National.
Certificate in defensive driving from a sanctioned driving institute
Most Critical Proficiencies:
a) Basic to intermediate knowledge of vehicle mechanics.
b) Strong communication skills both in English and local language of the West Central Uganda.
c) Good knowledge of roads and routes.
d) Strong adherence to the motor vehicle usage policy, as well as local and national traffic laws, always.
e) Basic to intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel)
