Position: Communications Officer

Reports to: Communications and Reporting Manager

Duty Station: Lira, Uganda

International Lifeline Fund (Lifeline) is a non-profit international humanitarian organization with its head office in Washington, D.C., and a local presence in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our team works with local partners and communities to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged by exponentially expanding access to clean water and energy solutions. Lifeline works in Energy and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sectors in both the development and humanitarian contexts.

The Communications Officer is responsible for supporting the communication efforts of the organization. This role involves assisting in the implementation of both internal and external communication strategies, and promoting the organization’s mission, products, and services. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring effective communication with stakeholders and the public.

 

JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Internal Communication and Coordination:

Documenting program milestones, in coordination with the program heads.

Reporting:

Conducting impact story collection for the programs and coordinating content writing for the end-of-year financial report, midyear report, and end of calendar year report.

 

Content Creation: 

  • Supporting the drafting and editing of written materials, including articles, newsletters, website content, and social media posts
  • Conducting internal and external interviews as needed, curating content, and sharing ideas for the annual content plan
  • Sharing ideas for the end-of-year fundraising campaign

 

Social Media Management:

  • Monitoring and reporting on the organization’s social media accounts
  • Suggesting content ideas

Media Relations:

Maintaining media outreach efforts, including drafting pitches and media releases, tracking media coverage and compiling press clippings. Producing at least one newsletter every quarter.

 

Event Preparation and Coordination:

  • Preparing content and event materials and providing on-site support and coordination during events such as product launches.

Internal Communication:

  • Preparing and planning trainings/webinars and workshops
  • Developing and sharing internal memos and newsletters
  • Supporting the coordination and collaboration of Lifeline’s WASH and Environment programs.

Research:

Conducting research on behalf of the organization to identify communications trends, gather data on competitors, generate reports to inform communication strategies, and regularly update the communications media folder on SharePoint.

Crisis Communication:

Assisting in preparing and disseminating communication materials during crises or sensitive situations especially issues affecting the organization’s reputation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with graphic design software
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and social media management tools
  • Basic Knowledge of Public relations and media relations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate with colleagues
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Basic understanding of web content management systems is a plus

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficiency in Langi

The Communications Officer position is field-based and requires interacting with and interviewing community members in Lango region districts namely: Lira, Apac, Kwania and Otuke. As such, the person occupying this position must be proficient in Langi.
